Where MR Multi Coder Goes Beyond

These are the 7 areas where our context management exceeds Claude Code's implementation.

Smart Context Priority Scoring

Messages are ranked by relevance — recency, file overlap with active edits, error priority, and tool type — not just position. The most important context survives truncation.

Per-Tool Truncation Budgets

Read and Grep results (bulk file content) get aggressive 0.4x truncation, while Edit/Write confirmations keep 1.5x. Claude Code uses a flat cap for everything.

Cross-Session Learning

The extension automatically extracts facts from your tool usage — test runners, package managers, frequently edited directories — and builds a knowledge.json that persists across sessions. No manual CLAUDE.md maintenance.

Context Budget Dashboard

A real-time stacked bar in the chat shows exactly how your context window is allocated — conversation, system prompt, project index, session memory, and thinking budget. Hover for exact token counts.

Adaptive Thinking Budget

Simple questions get 8K tokens of thinking. Complex refactors get the full budget. The estimator scores message length, complexity keywords ("refactor", "debug", "review"), attachment count, and recent tool density.

10+ Configurable Context Settings

Auto-compact threshold, replay limits, per-message caps, session memory summaries, thinking budget, rolling summary window — all adjustable from the settings panel with immediate effect.

Rich Conversation Forking

When you fork a session, the child inherits session MEMORY.md, rolling summary, and your fork note — not just a plain text summary. Deep context survives across forks.

How Context Flows in MR Multi Coder

1
System Prompt Assembly

On session start, the extension assembles the system prompt: custom instructions, project memory (CODER.md / CLAUDE.md), workspace orientation (file tree, toolchain), symbol index, cross-session knowledge, and session MEMORY.md. Stable content is placed first for maximum prompt cache hits.

2
Adaptive Thinking

The thinking budget is estimated from your message's complexity — simple questions get 8K tokens, complex multi-file refactors get the full configured maximum.

3
Auto-Compact

When the context window fills past the threshold (configurable, default 85%), the extension triggers compaction. For Claude, the SDK handles it natively — no redundant replay is injected. For CLI providers, the extension saves the rolling summary to session MEMORY.md and schedules a context replay for the next turn.

4
Context Replay

On provider swap or after CLI compaction, the extension builds a replay prefix. Messages are selected by relevance score — not just recency — and tool results are truncated with per-tool budgets.

5
Session Learning

When the session closes, the extension extracts facts from tool usage — frequently edited directories, test runners, package managers — and persists them in .mrcoder/knowledge.json. Facts confirmed across multiple sessions appear in future system prompts.
